AI Training for Finance Professionals

Automate your task with Copilot Agent — a weekend program for controllers, accountants, FP&A analysts and finance managers who want the routine work off their desk.

You will learn to put Copilot Agents to work on reconciliations, schedules, variance commentary and the month-end checklist — and to review what they produce with a finance reviewer's eye.

The core of the program

Automate your task with Copilot Agent

Most finance work is not hard, it is repetitive: pulling the same reports, chasing the same approvals, rebuilding the same schedule every month. A Copilot Agent is a configured assistant you point at exactly that work. It reads the context you give it, follows the steps you defined, and hands back a draft you review and sign off.

Across the course you build agents for your own recurring tasks — not toy examples. You start from a task you already do by hand, describe it precisely, ground the agent in the right files and systems, and tighten it until the output is something you would be comfortable putting in front of your reviewer.

01

Pick the task

Choose a recurring, rule-based piece of your week — an AP summary, a bank reconciliation, an intercompany schedule.

02

Write the instructions

Turn your mental checklist into explicit instructions, with the tone, format and level of detail your team expects.

03

Ground it in real data

Connect the agent to the workbooks, folders and reports it needs, and nothing more than that.

04

Review, correct, reuse

Check the draft against source numbers, feed corrections back, then run the same agent every cycle.

Highlights of the course

Four modules, built around the finance calendar

Every module ends with something you take back to work: an agent you configured, a checklist you rewrote, or a control you can defend to audit.

Module one

Understanding the finance AI agent

What an AI agent actually is, where it sits next to your ERP and spreadsheets, and why finance is a strong fit for it.

  • Assistant, copilot and agent — the real differences
  • How agents read your documents and business data
  • Where the numbers come from, and where they cannot
  • Permissions, data boundaries and who sees what
Module two

Automate your daily task

Take the recurring items on your own desk and turn each one into an agent you can run on demand.

  • Mapping your week to find automation candidates
  • Writing instructions an agent follows consistently
  • Drafting emails, follow-ups and approval summaries
  • Turning raw extracts into review-ready workings
Module three

Do's and don'ts with AI agents

The judgement half of the course: what you may safely delegate, what stays with a human, and how to prove it.

  • Data you must never paste into a prompt
  • Spotting a confident but wrong number
  • Review evidence and audit trail for agent output
  • Approval, segregation of duties and sign-off
Module four

AI agents for month-end and daily work

Apply everything to the close: an agent per checklist line, from cut-off through to the reporting pack.

  • Reconciliation and schedule preparation support
  • Variance and flux commentary you can edit
  • Close checklist tracking and status summaries
  • Building a repeatable pack for every period

Where the agents do the work

Your daily work, and your month-end task

The same skills apply twice: to the small things that interrupt your day, and to the compressed days at the end of every period.

Every day · on demandDaily works
  • Invoice and AP triageRead incoming invoices, match them to purchase orders, and flag the exceptions worth your attention.
  • Bank and ledger checksCompare statement lines with the ledger, group the unmatched items, and suggest what each one looks like.
  • Follow-ups and approvalsDraft chasers for pending approvals and overdue collections, in your team's usual wording.
  • Ad-hoc questionsAnswer “what did we spend on this in Q2” from your own reports instead of rebuilding a pivot.
  • Meeting and mail summariesTurn a long thread or review call into decisions, owners and dates.
Close · every periodMonth-end task
  • Close checklist statusTrack what is done, what is pending and who is holding a line item, refreshed on request.
  • Accruals and provisionsAssemble the supporting workings and prior-period comparatives for your judgement calls.
  • Reconciliation packsPrepare the recurring schedules in the same layout each period, with variances marked.
  • Variance commentaryDraft first-cut explanations against budget and prior period for you to correct and approve.
  • Reporting pack assemblyPull the narrative, tables and notes together into the review pack for the finance lead.

Do's and don'ts

Working with an AI agent, responsibly

A finance team is judged on accuracy and control, not speed alone. This module is what keeps the automation defensible.

Do

  • Tie every figure back to source.Agree the agent's output to the ledger or statement before it leaves your hands.
  • Give it the full context.Period, entity, currency, rounding and the format your reviewer expects.
  • Start with low-risk work.Summaries, drafts and preparation first; judgement and postings much later.
  • Keep a record.Save what you asked, what came back and what you changed — that is your review evidence.
  • Use approved company tools.Work inside the tenant and licences your organisation has sanctioned.

Don't

  • Don't paste confidential data into public tools.Payroll, customer and unpublished results stay inside sanctioned systems.
  • Don't take a number on trust.A fluent answer can still be wrong; the reviewer's signature is still yours.
  • Don't let it post or approve.Journals, payments and approvals stay with an authorised person.
  • Don't skip the audit trail.Output with no evidence of review is a control gap waiting to be raised.
  • Don't automate a broken process.Fix the checklist first, then hand it to an agent.

Training schedule

Who it is for

Built for finance people, not developers

No coding background is expected. If you can write a clear set of instructions for a junior colleague, you can configure an agent.

Accounting & controllership

Accountants, AP and AR specialists, general ledger and close teams who own recurring, deadline-driven work.

FP&A and reporting

Analysts and reporting leads who spend their week assembling packs, commentary and variance explanations.

Finance leaders

Managers, controllers and CFO-office staff deciding what their team should automate first — and what it must not.
